About the temple
Shri Vasishtha Temple in Vashisht village is one of the most visited temples in the Manali area, dedicated to Brahmarshi Vasishtha, the great seer and royal preceptor of the Raghu dynasty (including Lord Ram). The temple complex is renowned for its elaborate wood carving and for the natural hot water springs (sulphurous geothermal springs) that flow adjacent to the temple — one of the unique sacred bathing experiences in the Himalayas.
Significance
Sage Vasishtha is one of the Saptarishis (seven great sages) and the Kulaguru (family preceptor) of the Ikshvaku dynasty, making him a revered ancestor figure for all devotees of Lord Ram. The hot springs are considered purifying and have been used for ritual ablutions for centuries.
History & legend
According to legend, Sage Vasishtha meditated in these mountains, and the hot springs emerged as a divine gift to purify pilgrims. The temple complex was built and repeatedly expanded over centuries, with the most elaborate wood carvings added between the 17th and 19th centuries by successive Kullu rulers. It is now one of the most-visited sacred sites in Himachal Pradesh, attracting over 27,000 Google reviewers.

How to reach
Vashisht is 3 km from Manali town, across the Beas on the road towards Solang Valley. All taxis and local shared jeeps from Manali pass through Vashisht. It is 47 km from Kullu (about 90 minutes). Many visitors combine this with a trip to Solang Valley.
