About the temple

A replica of the famed Jammu shrine, carved into a small natural cave beside the Beas river. The temple is a popular halt for travellers driving between Kullu and Manali, and the soft chant of mantras over the river makes it a peaceful pause.

Significance

Devotees who cannot make the pilgrimage to Katra in Jammu come here to seek the blessings of Mata Vaishno Devi in her three forms — Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati.

History & legend

The cave was discovered by a sadhu in the early 1900s; a small shrine was built and gradually expanded into the present complex. The marble extension was added in the 1990s by a devotee community.
